About Us

PowerBase Associates is different from other competitive intelligence and strategic communications firms. What sets it apart is experience. Few research consultants have worked at the highest levels of corporate public affairs, government, politics, journalism and academia.

Dr. Gary A. Feld, the founder of PowerBase Associates, has provided cutting edge competitive intelligence and strategic advice to Fortune 500 companies, top associations, political parties and candidates, elected officials and leading publications, for almost two decades. From C-level executive suites to congressional leadership offices, Feld’s research and in-depth analysis has directly impacted business, legislative and political outcomes.

Gary A. Feld, Ph.D.

Currently a principal at PowerBase Associates – a firm he founded in 2012 – Feld most recently was a Vice President at DCI Group, where he oversaw the firm’s renowned research department. While at DCI, Feld provided corporate intelligence, legislative analysis and political information to many of the country’s largest corporations (including six of Fortune’s top 40 companies), private equity firms, associations and citizen coalitions.

Prior to joining DCI in 2007, Feld served as Director of Strategic Initiatives in the Office of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist. In that role, he assisted in crafting communications strategies and policy responses for the Republican Senate caucus. In 2006, Feld took a leave of absence from Sen. Frist’s staff to serve as Research Director for Bob Corker’s Senate campaign in Tennessee – the only competitive Senate election won by Republicans that year.

Feld moved to Capitol Hill from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, where he was Director of Statistical Analysis and later Research Director from 2003 to 2005. During his tenure at the NRSC, Republicans gained six additional Senate seats, won the majority in 2002 and, in 2004, defeated a party leader for the first time since 1954. He began his years in party politics with the Republican National Committee, where he was a Senior Analyst in the Department of Research and Strategic Planning.

Before stepping into the political arena, Dr. Feld was an analyst with the Campaign Study Group, a media consulting firm that provided campaign finance and database analysis to national news networks, leading newspapers and political websites.

His career began in the Washington D.C. bureau of the Los Angeles Times, where he served as Senior Analyst in the newspaper’s Special Investigations unit. At the Los Angeles Times, he contributed to stories on campaign finance scandals, congressional fundraising and spending and travel by the President’s cabinet. He also analyzed data for the book “Gold-Plated Politics” by Dwight L. Morris and Murielle Gamache, published by Congressional Quarterly Press.

Feld holds a Ph.D. in American Government from Georgetown University, a Masters of Arts from Boston College and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto. He has served on the Campaign Council for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s National Medical Center and on the Advisory Council of National Journal.

A native of Canada, Feld lives in Alexandria with his wife and two daughters.
